We Can Help With Your Legal Name Change
There are many reasons people want to change their names. Some people may be newlyweds. Some may have been married for years and either didn’t have the time for or avoided the hassle of trying to update their name with government, business and financial agencies. Some people go through divorces and wish to hit the rewind button and reclaim their maiden name or prior legal name to make a positive change after a rough time. Other people are looking for a fresh start with a name they always wanted. They are tired of listening to others mispronounce their name, or they just don’t like how their parents spelled it. Whatever the reason is, Rick Law is here to help you with your name change.
The Process Is Surprisingly Complicated To Handle On Your Own
Unfortunately, changing your name isn’t always as simple as just filling out some forms. While there are forms involved, that’s only the beginning of the journey. Who would have thought that you would have to attend a hearing to get your name changed? To start the process, you need to file a petition with the court, a verification, a notice of a hearing and submit a criminal background check along with a fingerprint card. Then, once you get through all those obstacles, you need to publish notice of your hearing (yes, there are rules where, how and when you need to publish it). Then you must attend the hearing on the date and time ordered by the court.
What good is changing your name if you don’t know how to update your legal records and documents? You’ll need to speak with PennDot, the Social Security office, and your bank. You’ll likely need to request a new Social Security card, and some even attempt to obtain new birth certificates. It’s a lot of red tape.
