Smart, Strategic Representation For Victims Of Employment Discrimination

Discrimination is the act of making unjustified distinctions between human begins based on the groups, classes or other categories to which they are perceived to belong. People may be discriminated against on the basis of race, gender, age or sexual orientation, as well as other possible categories.

Businesses must make sure that their places of work are free of harassment and discrimination or face the possibility of a lawsuit. There are several classes of people that are considered a “protected class” and they are applicants, employees and former employees. If you fall into one of these protected classes, you can file against a business to potentially get compensated, regain your former position, or obtain other benefits.

Some examples of harassment include, but are not limited to, inappropriate jokes, insults, name-calling, poster or cartoons hung in the workplace that appear to be directed at a person because of their race, color, sex or general, sexual orientation, etc.

Some examples of discrimination include, but are not limited to, refusal of a job, being looked over for transfers, promotions and training opportunities, not being afforded all the information needed to complete your job, being given tasks that are impossible to complete, and not being paid as much as others with the same job and with the same qualifications and experience.

An example of bullying is repeated unreasonable behavior that places the affected person’s health or well-being at risk. So much so that it causes undue stress on the recipient.
